Greenware, folks! For *TheCeramicsClan

This is sooo green, it hasn't even been burnished yet. That means it's not really representative of Jeff's work just before it goes to the kiln...oh well.

Jeff hand builds his sculptures using 3" wide strips of clay, and stacking them on top of each other using a blending technique he developed over time. The carving is drawn onto the clay with a needle tool, and then carved with a cleaning tool while the clay is still wet. He then smooths the form with a scraper. When the piece is bone dry Jeff sands it down, before burnishing it with a stone to get the natural shine finish. The clay is a custom porcelain-like clay, a lot of trial and error on the right mixture for Jeff's work. Jeff has white, red, pink or black clays made for his work.

Twins was a part of a series of piece sets that went to a show in Toronto some time ago. The finished products were not photographed as far as we know. 36"X14"X4"

I really like to see work in it's various stages. For some reason it adds a whole new dimension to it for me. Also cool to see some of his other pieces peaking around it and behind it. Little glimpses of studio and other pieces. :) I'm glad you posted one that wasn't burnished yet.

Very happy to hear this. I will try to take 'advantage' of my position more often, then.
